<div>As an autistic adult, I struggle to stay employed without burning out. I worked at QuikTrip for two and a half years—close to home and decent pay, but constant overstimulation and abrupt task-switching left me in survival mode. I eventually shut down during a summer rush, went on FMLA, and never returned. That was June 2023. Leaving was an act of self-compassion, but I’ve been struggling with burnout ever since.

<div>Thankfully, I found mindfulness and meditation not long after—and I can honestly say they saved my life. They gave me a glimpse of life beyond suffering, and a community to stand with… or rather, sit with. ba dum tss

<div>Over time, that community blossomed into new forms: yoga, ecstatic dance, and deeper connection. I’m endlessly grateful for the way these practices and people have held me—through vulnerability, growth, and the slow return to myself.

<div>I’ve been doing my best to get back on my feet, but progress has been slow. Even with flexible side jobs, I burn out quickly and retreat, barely earning enough to cover food and bills. Lately, just getting to work feels overwhelming, so I've decided to prioritize my well-being. While it has helped, it’s come at the cost of financial stability. My savings are gone, and I’ve been relying on credit—a slippery slope I’m wary of.

<div>Life as an autistic adult presents unique challenges, and I’m trying my best to build a sustainable, fulfilling life. Right now, I’m struggling to cover basic necessities while also pursuing my dreams. I want to create a life where I’m not just surviving, but thriving.
