<div>In mid-January of 2026, my friend "Danna" was racially profiled and abducted by ICE despite having legal status. Within hours, she and her older child, who is only 6 years old, were whisked away to Texas, with her 2 year old left behind in a guardian's care. It took a month to the day to free Danna and her older child and reunite them with the younger. The toll this took on them all is palpable, and while Mom and children are back together and home now, Dad was deported, and Danna must now settle into life as the sole provider for her family, find a new job and childcare, all while catching up on bills and dealing with the trauma that was inflicted upon her and her family.
