<div>We are a small collective of five doulas—four from various municipalities across Colombia, from Cali to Caldas, and one from Southern California—dedicated to accompanying women through safe and respected births. Our collective focuses on supporting women in economically vulnerable situations, many of whom lack family or partner support. At present, our principal objective is to ensure that <em>acompañantes de parto</em> (birth companions or doulas) are available to assist mothers in all contexts seeking an intercultural birth experience. Although this work is rooted in vocation and community care, we recognize that it entails expenses related to transportation, materials, food, and time.

<div><em>El parto respetado</em> (a respected birth) is a long-standing traditional practice that emphasizes empowering mothers through a dynamic birthing process centered on movement, flow, and the autonomy of the birthing person.<em> Interculturality </em>is a crucial dimension of this work in a nation as diverse as Colombia, home to significant Indigenous and Afro-Colombian populations. Cali is among the first cities in the country to establish an intercultural birth center dedicated to the principles of el parto respetado, and it is essential to sustain such efforts even in the absence of adequate governmental funding.

<div>All funds raised will directly support supplies for<em> sobada</em> (traditional massage) , herbal and placental medicine, and transportation for doulas to reach mothers’ homes and hospitals. Our work involves accompanying families through every stage of the perinatal process—from prenatal care to postpartum recovery—with attention to nutrition, herbal and body therapies, and traditional practices that honor cultural identity. The intercultural birth room integrates practices and techniques that allow each person to give birth in the manner most aligned with their intuition and cultural roots—through movement, music, and traditional ritual. Ultimately, advancing the liberation of birth across contexts and geographies is both a gender justice and environmental justice imperative.

La interculturalidad es una dimensión crucial de este trabajo en una nación tan diversa como Colombia, donde viven importantes poblaciones indígenas y afrocolombianas. <div>Todos los fondos recaudados se destinarán directamente a la adquisición de suministros para el sobada, baños, bebidas herbales, medicina placentaria, y transporte para que las doulas puedan llegar a los hogares y hospitales de las madres. Nuestro trabajo consiste en acompañar a las familias en todas las etapas del proceso perinatal, desde la atención prenatal hasta la recuperación posparto, prestando especial atención a la nutrición, las terapias herbales y corporales, y las prácticas tradicionales que respetan la identidad cultural. La sala de partos intercultural integra prácticas y técnicas que permiten a cada persona dar a luz de la manera más acorde con su intuición y sus raíces culturales, a través del movimiento, la música y los rituales tradicionales. En fin, promover la liberación del parto en todos los contextos y geografías es un imperativo tanto de justicia de género como de justicia medioambiental.
