We would like to thank everyone that has help reach our goal of supporting Amblessed’s transition to homecare. In the past 4 months Amblessed has moved from the hospital to a long-term care facility to now preparing to transition home. His transition has been slightly delayed by a bacterial infection, however he is doing great and will be making the transition home with his family in a few weeks. His family has been able to transition into a new place for his care. However, we have some unfortunate news that changes Amblessed’s situation. He has been dropped by the family’s insurance and is ineligible for Medicaid. This means all of Amblessed’s medical needs will have to be paid out of pocket. Recovery from a traumatic brain injury is extremely and expensive and time intensive. With this news we are updating our goal to $500,000 dollars. We are looking to make sure that Amblessed receives the best care he possibly can with the situation that he and his family are in. His recovery will be a long and difficult process. Amblessed still has the assistance of an oxygen tank and fed through a feeding tube. He currently unable to move on his own. He spends most of his day in his hospital bed, but also spends a few hours a day in a reclining hospital chair. He receives a variety of therapies 3 times a week from the long-term care facility (physical, speech, and occupational therapies). He also receives a variety of medications for his recovery. These are some of the most expensive costs that his family wants to continue to provide from home. Most of these costs are recuring costs for Amblessed’s care. Our goal is to support this level of care over multiple years for Amblessed. The ultimate end goal is to get Amblessed into a long-term rehabilitation facility such as the Shepherd Center.
