<div>We are 100 families taking on the CCP - and we need your help.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In 2018, our homes-key-worker flats in Tower Hamlets were sold in a secretive deal to the People's Republic of China. We had no say. No warning. And now, we face living under the shadow of a hostile superpower.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The UK Government is expected to approve plans to build the largest embassy in Europe - right here, at Royal Mint Court, next to the Tower of London… and directly on top of our homes.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This is not just a planning dispute.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>China has never shown any regard for our safety - and now the Government and the Metropolitan Police have abandoned us too.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are the Royal Mint Court Residents Association. People backed our previous Crowdfunder campaign that helped pay for a barrister to present our evidence including an independent security assessment showing the serious risks to us from a terror attack on the mega-embassy.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are now launching an urgent legal challenge - a Judicial Review - to change the law and stop this injustice.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We need your help to protect our community from the mighty Chinese Communist Party.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Whatever you can spare us, will help David stand-up to Goliath.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are seeking to pursue a Judicial Review because we have believed all along that the planning process has been flawed. Here are some of the reasons we think are likely to be relevant:
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>“Closed mind”: Ministers may have signalled early approval to China, before formal procedures were followed, breaking the law and abusing planning powers. In a similar vein, objections disappeared after UK ministers returned from Beijing. Residents have felt like pawns in a geopolitical game since the start.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Security concerns: Building a fortified embassy with homes on site and critical infrastructure nearby, ignoring espionage concerns and the real human risk to dissidents, is indefensible.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Procedural unfairness: We were shut out of the process. No consultation. No transparency. No respect for the people who live here.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Legitimate expectation: We were promised due process and protection. We got silence.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>What’s wrong with the embassy plan?
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We still live here. 100 families. Nurses, teachers, pensioners. Our 100 homes are on land now owned by the Chinese government. That means the Chinese ambassador is our landlord - with rights to enter our homes.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>China refuses to answer us. Since 2018, we’ve begged for assurances: will we be evicted? Will we be safe? Can we stay? Beijing’s answer: not until we get planning permission. This refusal, and the proposal to install a temporary style wooden boundary fence as a dividing line, raises fears that the Chinese Government intends to take back the entire 100 apartments at St Mary Graces Court once they secure diplomatic status for the site, leaving us homeless.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This embassy is a fortress. It’s not a normal diplomatic building. It will have secret communications centres, fortified walls, and surveillance technology that can monitor our entire estate, even our bedrooms. It will also stand on top of critical UK cables that MI5 warn are a security risk to the UK.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The UK Government knows the risk - and ignored it. Our independent security report warns that this site puts families and national security at risk. Even the UK’s Head of Counter-Terrorism originally objected - citing threats to residents and dissidents. But since ministers returned from Beijing, objections have mysteriously vanished.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Ministers made no mention of the 100 families living here. We are alarmed that the letters from Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and Foreign Secretary David Lammy have ignored the fact that UK families live in 100 apartments on the land that is actually part of Royal Mint court - and is owned by the Chinese government. Our Resident’s Chairman has personally appealed to ministers, submitted the full Crilly Consultants security report, and our plight has appeared in The Times, FT, BBC, CNN, and more. What is happening to democratic accountability in this country?
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The first duty of the UK government is to protect its citizens. We understand the UK’s diplomatic obligations - but not at the expense of its own people. The refusal to acknowledge the basic risks of housing a high-security foreign embassy on top of a residential block is deeply troubling. It appears the government is prioritising relations with Beijing over the safety of its own citizens.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>It’s not just about us. Dissidents, including Hong Kongers, Uyghurs, Tibetans, Taiwanese and Chinese exile communities are terrified. They’ve told us they no longer feel safe protesting outside the site, and on British soil. Their presence, and ours, will be met with constant surveillance and intimidation by a regime known to harass and threaten activists - even abroad.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The people have spoken, and they support us.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On 8 February 2025, thousands of British citizens - including Hong Kongers, Uyghurs, Tibetans, Taiwanese and Chinese pro-democracy activists, and human rights campaigners - gathered outside Royal Mint Court in protest against this embassy.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>They were joined by cross-party MPs, journalists, and allies. Together, they said NO to the Chinese embassy, and YES to democratic values, safety, and justice.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Further mass protests followed on 15 March, 3 May, and 14 June - showing growing national resistance to the plan.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>They continue to protest, and have made it clear: they won’t stop until this mega-embassy deal is over.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But the Government is not listening.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>So now, we go to court.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But we need your help - fast.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The legal fees for a Judicial Review are beyond the reach of ordinary families. But with your help, we can stand up to both Beijing and Whitehall.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This case is about more than one building. It’s about:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Protecting British citizens from state overreach
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>

</div>
<div>Challenging backroom deals that put power over people
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If we succeed, we won’t just protect our homes. We’ll set a precedent that no foreign government can build on British soil without respecting British citizens and British values.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Will you stand with us?
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Please chip in whatever you can. £10. £100. £1,000. Every penny goes to legal costs to take this to court. We are a group of teachers, nurses, shop workers and pensioners. We don’t have the Chinese Communist Party’s millions - but with your help, we do have people power.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
