For over two decades, I’ve dedicated my life to caring for my daughter, who lives with sickle cell disease and a stroke survivor. <div>In a shocking turn of events, I was arrested because my daughter missed too many school days—even though every absence was due to medical complications and well-documented by healthcare professionals.

<div>Yet, I found myself in handcuffs, criminalized for loving my child through her illness.

<div>It threatened my livelihood, mental health, housing stability, and the very advocacy work that’s helped so many others.
