<div>As of today, it has been 6 heartbreaking days since our beloved <strong>Chiko lost the ability to use his back legs.</strong> He can no longer stand or walk on his own, and it's been a devastating change for a usually spunky and joyful dog.

<div>On May 3rd, Chiko was rushed to the emergency vet after he suddenly began dragging his hind legs. At this time, Chiko's symptoms were thought to be a fibrocartilaginous embolism (FCE), a sudden spinal cord injury caused by a blockage in the blood supply to part of the spinal cord. However, after a follow-up examination by a neurologist, it is now suspected that Chiko is suffering from a herniated disc in the middle of his spine, which could permanently affect his mobility and quality of life if left untreated.

<div>To properly diagnose and treat Chiko’s condition, the next steps include an MRI scan to confirm the cause of his paralysis, followed by spinal surgery if necessary. <em>The estimated total cost for his care ranges from $14,000 to $16,500, with the MRI alone expected to cost approximately $9,000.</em>
