<div>Jonathan is a 12-year old Egyptian boy from Port Said, born on April 21, 2013. Since early childhood, he’s been known for his intelligence, calm personality, and respectful behavior. He loves sports and practiced karate regularly. He never showed any serious symptoms, just occasional fatigue and exhaustion, which his family assumed was due to physical activity. They also noticed that his skin was gradually darkening but thought it was a natural, inherited trait.

<div>Seventeen years ago, they lost their eldest son, George, to what they now know was the same disease. At the time, no doctor could provide a clear diagnosis.

<div>George’s symptoms began with vision issues and concentration difficulties. Over time, he lost his sight completely, followed by his ability to move, swallow, and speak — until only his hearing remained.

<div>His mother cared for him entirely at home for seven months, feeding him, bathing him, and praying endlessly for a miracle. Sadly, George passed away in 2007 at just six years old, and the family never knew what truly caused his suffering — until now.

<div>January 2023 – The First Crisis

<div>In January 2023, Jonathan suddenly fell into a near-coma with severe vomiting and was rushed to the hospital.
</div>
<div>He recovered temporarily, but in April — just before a scheduled tonsil surgery — the same crisis struck again, this time even more severe.
</div>
<div>While doctors were inserting an IV cannula, Jonathan had violent seizures. His mother broke down in fear, feeling like she was reliving the same nightmare she had once lived with George.

<div>Diagnosis: X-ALD and Addison’s Disease
</div>

<div>After extensive medical evaluations, Jonathan was diagnosed with an extremely rare condition:

<div>X-linked Adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) — a genetic disorder that affects the adrenal glands and/or the central nervous system, progressing in unpredictable ways.

<div>He was also diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency (Addison’s disease) and began immediate treatment with cortisol replacement therapy, which stabilized his condition slightly.

<div>He was discharged from the hospital after 18 days and began regular follow-ups with endocrinologists and neurologists in both Cairo and Port Said.

<div>⚠️ November 2024 – A Dangerous Turning Point

<div>Unfortunately, in November 2024, Jonathan had another seizure.
</div>
<div>MRI scans revealed significant deterioration in the brain’s white matter, confirming the disease was progressing.
</div>
<div>Doctors made it clear: a bone marrow transplant is urgently needed to stop the disease from further damaging his brain and body. Without it, he risks losing his ability to walk, talk, swallow, or even remain conscious — just like what happened to his brother George.

<div>In March 2025, the family conducted a compatibility test between Jonathan and his older sister Julia (22 years old). The results were hopeful.

<div>جوناثان هو طفل مصري من بورسعيد، يبلغ من العمر 12 عامًا، وُلد في 21 أبريل 2013. منذ صغره، كان معروفًا بذكائه وهدوئه وأخلاقه الطيبة. يحب الرياضة، وكان يمارس الكاراتيه بانتظام، ولم تظهر عليه أي أعراض مقلقة، سوى نوبات متفرقة من التعب والإرهاق اعتقدت أسرته أنها نتيجة للمجهود البدني. كما لاحظت والدته تغيرًا تدريجيًا في لون بشرته، لكنها ظنّت أن الأمر طبيعي ووراثي.

<div>لكن في يناير 2023، حدث ما لم يكن في الحسبان. دخل جوناثان في حالة شبه غيبوبة مصحوبة بقيء شديد، وتم نقله إلى المستشفى حيث تلقى العلاج وتحسنت حالته مؤقتًا.

<div>وبعد عدة أشهر، في أبريل، وقبل موعد عملية اللوز، تعرض لنفس الأزمة مجددًا، لكن بشكل أشد.

<div>وأثناء محاولة تركيب الكانيولا، أصيب بتشنجات عنيفة، وسط حالة من الذعر والانهيار التي أصابت أسرته، خاصة والدته التي عاشت هذه المأساة من قبل.

<div>مأساة متكررة في نفس العائلة
</div>
<div>ما يزيد الأمر إيلامًا أن جوناثان ليس أول طفل في العائلة يصاب بهذا المرض. قبل 17 عامًا، فقدت الأسرة ابنها الأكبر "جورج"، الذي عانى من أعراض مشابهة، لكن لم يتم تشخيص حالته في ذلك الوقت.

<div>بدأت حالته بتدهور في النظر والتركيز، ثم فقد البصر تمامًا، وتدهورت قدراته تدريجيًا حتى فقد الحركة والبلع والنطق، ولم يتبقَ سوى حاسة السمع.

<div>ظلت والدته ترعاه بنفسها طوال 7 أشهر، حتى وافته المنية عام 2007 عن عمر 6 سنوات، دون أن تعرف الأسرة السبب الحقيقي لما أصابه.

</div>
<div>بعد إجراء الفحوصات اللازمة، تم تشخيص جوناثان بمرض نادر جدًا يُعرف باسم

<div>في نوفمبر 2024، أصيب جوناثان بنوبة تشنج جديدة.

<div>وأظهرت أشعة الرنين المغناطيسي تدهورًا واضحًا في المادة البيضاء بالدماغ، ما يعني أن المرض في حالة تقدم نشط.
