</div>
<div><strong>Urgent Assistance for Rural Families Affected by the Earthquake in Colombia</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Hola.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Hello. My name is Jaime de la Fuente. I am Spanish, but I have been living permanently in Colombia for more than two years. I am part of a local support network that assists people with security, medical assistance and emergency situations.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Since the earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10, 2026, a group of us have been working directly with affected families living in some of the most remote rural areas.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>The Techos de Amor Project began in Dagua, Valle del Cauca. Our intention is to progressively extend the assistance to other affected areas as resources become available.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Cientos de familias se han quedado sin casa / <strong>Hundreds of families have lost their homes</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>In rural areas, hundreds of families have lost their homes or can no longer live in them.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>Many are sleeping on mattresses under improvised shelters made from plastic sheets and other materials.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Y está lloviendo /<strong> And it is raining.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>The problem is not simply how much aid is available. It is also getting that aid to the people living in the most isolated areas.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>Colombia's geography makes many rural communities difficult to reach. The roads are challenging, distances are long, and many veredas — rural communities and settlements — are far from the main population centres.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>La ayuda particular existe.
</div>
<div><strong>Private relief efforts do exist. We have seen vehicles travelling along rural roads distributing food and other supplies. But in practice, much of this assistance ends up concentrated in the more accessible areas, while some families living farther away still have no basic solution to protect themselves from the rain and get through the night.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>The institutional response is underway, but reconstruction and the allocation of public resources take time.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>These families cannot wait months to have a roof over their heads again.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Nosotros hemos decidido empezar / <strong>We decided to start</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>We have already begun using our own resources and have acquired the materials needed to build the first two Initial Residential Modules.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>They are approximately 16 m² and were developed as an immediate housing solution: a dry, safe and functional space where a family can sleep, prepare food and remain protected from the weather.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>The first unit has already been assembled, and it has allowed us to confirm something important: it is a robust structure and feels much more spacious and functional inside than its floor area might suggest on a drawing.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>For this reason, we no longer consider it simply a temporary shelter. The Initial Residential Module is designed to remain in place and become the core of a larger dwelling, which can be progressively expanded as the family's needs and resources evolve.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>At the first location we reached, approximately 18 of the 20 homes we visited were severely affected, and with the resources currently available we can only build two modules.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>In the surrounding areas, we have identified more than 150 homes that are severely damaged or have been destroyed by the earthquake.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Por eso necesitamos ayuda. / <strong>That is why we need help.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Una solución que podemos construir ahora /<strong> A housing solution we can build now</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>We have developed a modular construction system that allows the units to be manufactured and installed relatively quickly and adapted to the needs of each family.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Desglose de gastos / <strong>how we are going to use the budget:</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Módulo habitacional inicial — 16 m²
</div>
<div><strong>Initial Residential Module — 16 m²</strong>
</div>
<div>3.800 € — aproximadamente 4.431 USD / 13,5 millones de pesos colombianos.
</div>
<div><strong>€3,800 — approximately USD 4,431 / COP 13.5 million.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>It is the most immediate housing solution: a protected and functional space for sleeping, preparing food and living safely, protected from rain and environmental conditions.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Proyecto a futuro /<strong> the future project</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Vivienda modular — 30 m²
</div>
<div><strong>Modular Home — 30 m²</strong>
</div>
<div>4.125 € — aproximadamente 4.810 USD / 14,7 millones de pesos colombianos.
</div>
<div><strong>€4,125 — approximately USD 4,810 / COP 14.7 million.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Dos habitaciones, baño, salón y cocina.
</div>
<div><strong>Two bedrooms, bathroom, living room and kitchen.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Vivienda modular — 42 m²
</div>
<div><strong>Modular Home — 42 m²</strong>
</div>
<div>5.620 € — aproximadamente 6.560 USD / 20 millones de pesos colombianos.
</div>
<div><strong>€5,620 — approximately USD 6,560 / COP 20 million.</strong>
</div>
<div>Dos habitaciones más amplias, baño, salón y cocina.
</div>
<div><strong>Two larger bedrooms, bathroom, living room and kitchen.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>The solutions are designed as modular systems so that compatible extensions can be added later as circumstances and resources allow, while maintaining the applicable technical and safety requirements</strong>.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Hemos establecido un objetivo inicial de 10.000 €.
</div>
<div><strong>We have set an initial fundraising target of €10,000.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>This is not the total cost of reconstruction. It is the first amount we need to continue the initial operations and begin delivering this housing solution directly to more affected families.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>As funding becomes available, we will progressively increase the number of homes we can build.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>The campaign will remain open while the emergency continues and rural families still need assistance.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>We will publish regular updates showing how much money we have received, how it has been used, how many residential modules and homes we have built, where they have been built, and how many families have been able to regain a safe place to live.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>Our goal is not simply to take aid to an affected area.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>We want to build housing where families have lost their homes, starting with the rural communities of Dagua.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>Every contribution becomes materials, transportation and labour that help bring a safe place to live closer to a family that is currently without adequate housing.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>If we receive enough funding, we will progressively expand the project to other rural communities affected by the earthquake.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>The emergency will not end in a few weeks. Reconstruction will take months. We are already there, and we already know how to start building. What we need are the resources to keep doing it.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>También estamos atendiendo las necesidades inmediatas
</div>
<div><strong>We are also addressing immediate needs</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>While we begin the housing construction programme, we are providing basic assistance directly to affected families.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>We are distributing food packages containing non-perishable food, milk, eggs and basic hygiene and cleaning products, including toothbrushes and toothpaste, personal soap, laundry soap and dishwashing products.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>Each food package costs approximately COP 50,000 (around €14 / USD 16).</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>We are also registering affected people by age and gender so that we can distribute the clothing we had previously collected in an organized way.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><strong>This allows us to match the available clothing to the people who actually need it rather than distributing it indiscriminately.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Gracias por ayudar. / Thank you for helping.
