<div>before the 35 years of concerts, recordings, and the crazy idea of opening a '<em>peña'</em> in San Francisco…

<div>there were two teenagers who didn’t know each other yet.
</div>

<div>One was sketching dreams in California, having refused to trade imagination for grades. The other was playing music and sports in the mountains of Bolivia, refusing to stop for any teacher who demanded conformity.

<div>Both were labeled “bad students.”
</div>
<div>Both were told to be practical.
</div>
<div>Both ignored the advice.
