<div>James needs the help of his friends. This is the situation: At age 20, his MD informed him that with his Type I Diabetes, he might expect 30 more years of good health – a life that would become more complicated in his 50s. That significant diagnosis influenced James to choose a more adventurous path than he might otherwise have taken. His work has been admirable, though not consistently financially sustainable. In 2003, he chose conventional employment in the Office of the Architect at UC Davis, with a long-term benefit that would result in a comfortable pension. When UC experienced the financial crash crisis in 2009, he, along with many newer employees, was laid off prior to his vesting in the retirement benefit. He has subsequently worked on many interesting as well as conventional architectural and graphic design projects.

<div>He had planned to work for the remainder of his life in order to supplement his meager Social Security benefits. However, weakened health has rendered James less able to work regularly. His Social Security benefits don’t come close to supporting the financial demands of his health issues (diabetes and of life in general).

<div>It is very concerning for all of us who know and love James. To this end, I am starting a fund to help James with his monthly costs. This request is going only to a few of James’ friends, and it is going out to you with his knowledge.
