Recently, I found myself in a situation that tested those values. I became deeply concerned for the safety of a dog in my community after hearing from neighbors and advocacy groups that the animal was being abused and restrained daily. Organizations like the Kris Kelly Foundation, Compton Paw Patrol, and South Gate ICE Watch had all highlighted the issue, and many in the neighborhood shared my concerns.

<div> Along with a few women from the community, I went to the residence to check on the dog and tried to get the attention of someone inside. When the door unexpectedly opened, the man inside refused to release the dog. Despite our intentions to help, the police were called, and I was taken into custody. I am now facing an attempted burglary charge, even though my only goal was to help an animal in need. The alleged abuser was not taken into custody, and I am left to navigate the legal system on my own.
