What's even more disheartening, according to a 2020 study by the San Diego Council on Literacy, 60% of low-income students <a href="https://www.supervisornoravargas.com/content/dam/d1/boardletters/pdf/March%2016%20BOS%20Letter%20Literacy%20Campaign%20D1%20FINAL%20BL%20Signed.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">don't have a single book</a> at home. And in low-income communities, there is <a href="https://teacher.scholastic.com/education/classroom-library/pdfs/Access-to-Books.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">only one book available for every 300 children</a>!
