<div>On 7 June, we celebrated 35 years since Ireland was declared Europe’s first Whale and Dolphin Sanctuary through our first IWDG Sanctuary Day.

<div>As part of World Ocean Week, Sanctuary Day helped raise awareness of whales, dolphins and porpoises in Irish waters and highlighted the importance of research, monitoring, conservation, and public participation.
</div>

</div>
<div>Over the past 35 years, the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) has developed a strong evidence base on cetaceans in Irish waters through long-term monitoring, sightings schemes, strandings response, research, education, and citizen science.
