Please read about my story in the <a href="https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/people/for-the-first-time-in-25-years-this-means-hope-leeds-family-fundraising-for-life-changing-ms-treatment-1-10131252" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yorkshire Post here</a> (article not available anymore ;-( ) I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1995 whilst serving for my country as a Captain in the Marines.    Unfortunately, I caught the disease through an injection I received whilst serving in the army.  They did not know at that time that this vaccine that was supposed to protect me was flawed and later going to progressively destroy my life.  Once a good sportsman and soldier, since 2015 I have been wheelchair bound and I am now worried about the future...




                                                                                                        <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/41124632_1576769819873990_r.jpeg" alt="41124632_1576769819873990_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /> However, there is some hope for me…  HSCT (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Therapy) has been proven to halt the progression of multiple sclerosis completely.  The therapy has had some amazing results and has been shown to halt the progression of the condition in 80% of cases. Autoimmune damage of myelin is associated to MS.  The HSCT treatment works in 3 steps:  1-Generating, collecting and storing hematopoietic stem cells 2-Administering chemotherapy to further eliminate immune cells responsible for the underlying autoimmune disease 3-Infusing back into the bloodstream the stored hematopoietic stem cells in order to repopulate the immune system with new immune cells It is a reboot of the immune system, thereby halting the underlying disease activity. To know more about HSCT, click <a href="https://hsct-russia.com/general-information" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>  and <a href="https://www.hsctmexico.com/treatment.php?lng=eng" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>  Limited funding means that the NHS has a very restrictive set of criteria.  Just 0.1% of the MS population has been treated in the UK with HSCT which shows how restrictive it really is.  However, HSCT has been shows to be effective for all forms of MS and the most experienced centres have shown this.  For example, at the Centre that I have been accepted at, their statistics show that those suffering with the same type of MS that I have, are relapse free in 81% of cases following the treatment. As I urgently need this therapy to halt my Multiple Sclerosis before it does more damage (such as brain shrinking, loss of my upper body or seizures), and it's simply too late, I need to go private to get the treatment.  Unfortunately, due to the progressive nature of the disease, I do not have time to wait. <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/41124632_1580218258506453_r.jpeg" alt="41124632_1580218258506453_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /> Following an assessment, I have been accepted as suitable for treatment at one of the main centres offering HSCT treatment outside the UK.   I have been offered a place for the treatment which offers an opportunity for hope for the future for the first time. Having this treatment would help me to continue to live my life normally by carrying on working, allowing me to raise and support my two young children (6 and 8). It will help me to live my life like any other daddy.
