<div>Our father’s life changed on September 25th when he was hit by a driver while riding his e-bike.
</div>
<div>He suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury from C3–T2 that left him paralyzed from the chest down and required emergency spinal decompression surgery, along with a broken ankle and a fractured knee.

<div>He spent 26 days in the ICU, and by day 3 he could no longer breathe on his own. He was placed on a ventilator and eventually required a tracheostomy, which he still has today. Communication is extremely challenging, but we work with what we can.
</div>

</div>
<div>For the past month, he has been in a Respiratory Hospital. For weeks, he was making incredible progress—breathing on his own with minimal support, becoming more alert, gaining strength, participating in therapy, and even going outside in a cardiac chair for the first time after being bedridden for over six weeks.
</div>

<div>Then everything changed suddenly.
</div>

</div>
<div>Almost overnight, he became extremely weak, confused, and barely responsive. He couldn’t open his eyes normally, couldn’t follow commands, and seemed unaware of his surroundings. This delirium, confusion, and extreme exhaustion lasted about 11 days. Multiple tests were done, and the decline appeared to be caused by a combination of CO₂ retention, dehydration from a nursing error, and a pneumonia infection that developed.

<div>His memory slowly began to return, but he was still having moments of confusion and unresponsiveness. He didn’t remember the accident or why he was in the hospital. We were already preparing for a long recovery—relearning how to sit up, swallow, stand, walk, and complete basic activities of daily life.

<div>Then, this past Saturday, November 22nd, he suffered approximately 12 mini strokes.
</div>
<div>He was transferred to another hospital where he remains now. He has finally opened his eyes, but they are still deviating to the right. At this moment, he is not responding—he simply looks around. We were already in for a long road ahead, and now, with the strokes, we know his journey will require even more time, care, and support.

<div>Through all of this, our dad has shown moments of hope—like new movement in his right arm. We hold onto every miracle we see.
</div>

<div>As his daughters, we have been by his side every single day for the past two months. We rotate day and night shifts because there have been multiple concerning lapses in care, and we do not feel comfortable leaving him alone. We’ve had to catch things that could have caused serious harm. If we weren’t present, we truly do not know what could have happened.

<div>Because we are with him so much, our ability to work consistently has been deeply affected.
</div>
<div>We are both single mothers providing for our households, and this unexpected journey has shaken our financial stability. We are doing everything we can, but we are struggling to keep up with basic living expenses while continuing to care for our dad.
