<div>My friend <strong>Marie-Christine </strong>is a guardian angel to the abandoned and abused dogs: she has been running <a href="https://puppypalacedr.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>The Puppy Palace DR</strong></a>, a rehabilitation and rescue for puppies, for almost a decade.

<div>Over the years, Marie has found forever homes for <strong>190 dogs </strong>who now live their best lives in the DR or in Canada. To achieve that, she had them all treated for their diseases, vaccinated, dewormed and neutered. It's a full time job. And she does it alone, relying on donations from dog lovers and her own funds.

<div>I first met Marie at the local vet, while waiting for my own rescue to be vaccinated. She held a week-old puppy in her arms. When I congratulated her on the new dog, she said, <strong>"He was dumped on my street. Another one."</strong> I asked to explain. She did: every week entire litters of unwanted puppies are dumped on streets and back alleys; dogs get left behind when their owners move, or thrown out when medical bills become too steep. It's an epidemic. She takes them all in, and she gives them a second chance in life. But now she's full, and the costs are overwhelming.

<div>Marie currently cares for <strong>15 </strong>of her own dogs, <strong>20 rescued puppies</strong> and <strong>10 cats</strong>. Many are sick or injured and require medical help.

<li>Vet care and vaccines cost around<strong> $300 USD</strong> <strong>a month</strong>;

<li>Neutering and spaying <strong>$200 USD a month</strong>;

<li>Food adds to <strong>$700 USD monthly</strong>.

<div>Marie can't do it alone. I have donated many times, so did many expats living in Cabarete and Sosua. The locals can't help because they just don't have this kind of money. But you do.
