<div>This past Monday, we were told the unimaginable. Rob was officially diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The team at the University of Chicago gave us a prognosis of 12 to 18 months. I won’t sugarcoat it—those first few days were some of the darkest I’ve ever experienced. The grief, the panic, the feeling like I couldn’t breathe… like I couldn’t imagine a world without Rob in it.

<div>But even in that darkness, something—someone—led us to hope.

<div>Through the grace of God and the power of connection, we were put in touch with a man from St. John, Indiana, who had nearly the same diagnosis as Rob—if not worse. He had 16 tumors, was also being treated at the University of Chicago, and was told he had six months to live. That same man is now cancer-free. Unfortunately, after going to New York and meeting the same doctors, Rob was not a candidate for the same treatment.

<div>After weeks of research, countless conversations, and more prayers than I can count, Rob has officially been accepted into a groundbreaking dendritic cell immunotherapy program in Germany. We will begin treatment on September 16th with Prof. Dr. Frank Gansauge and his team in Berg, Germany. Yes you read that right…THE BOHACIKS ARE GOING TO GERMANY!

<div>This therapy is unlike anything available to us here at home. It’s built on the idea of using Rob’s own immune system to fight his cancer. The process starts with drawing his blood, where special precursor cells are isolated and grown in a certified lab. Over seven days, these cells are matured and “trained” with proteins from Rob’s own tumor. Once ready, they are injected back into his body — designed to “teach” his immune system how to recognize and attack the cancer cells. From there, his body can begin creating an army of its own defense cells to fight what has tried so hard to steal from him.

<div>We know this is not an easy road. It means leaving home, traveling across the world, and trusting a new team of doctors — all while still being husband, dad, patient, and fighter. But it also means hope. Hope for more time, more memories, more milestones with our daughter. Hope that Rob’s strength, combined with science, can create something powerful.
