<div>April 12th, my heart went into a severe arrhythmia and my defibrillator fired multiple times in a row. It was brutal. After more than 20 years of heart failure and the last 6 years living with an LVAD, I’ve reached the point where a transplant was a future thing it’s a now thing.

<div>The doctors have now moved me to the highest priority level for a transplant. That means when a match becomes available in this region, I’m next in line. It’s a strange place to be, grateful for the chance, but also facing a major surgery with a lot of unknowns.

<div>In the meantime, I’m stuck in the hospital waiting. I can’t work. I don’t know how long I’ll be here, and even if everything goes perfectly, recovery will take time before I can get back on my feet.

<div>Bills don’t stop, though. Mortgage, medical costs, and everyday expenses are piling up. More importantly, I want to make sure my family is taken care of while I’m going through this.
