<div>Hi, I’m Kate. After 12 years as a teacher in Salinas, I made the incredibly difficult decision to step away from the classroom to focus on my mental health. In March, I entered a treatment facility in Monterey to address burnout and depression—something I had struggled with for a long time.

<div>That experience changed everything. I realized it was time to choose a path that supports both my well-being and my future. I'm now enrolled at Cabrillo College with the goal of becoming a radiology technician, and I’m working hard to complete my prerequisites this summer and fall.

<div>This is a hopeful transition—but financially, it’s extremely difficult. Because of how my leave was processed, I received no paycheck in May, and my June and July pay will be cut in half. Right now, I have about $900 in my account, which doesn’t cover even my basic bills.
