<div>On the evening of September 16, Max — a student at North Island College and a dedicated staff member of the Students’ Union — was walking home from his night shift at the College Cafeteria.
</div>

</div>
<div>While walking down Ryan Road, a steep and busy 8% grade hill identified by the local Cycling Coalition as a “Red” zone (high volume, high speed), Max was struck by a cyclist,<em> riding on the sidewalk.</em>
</div>

</div>
<div>The collision left Max with a serious head injury, which he was not able to recover from.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>He spent five days in the intensive care unit in Victoria and then some time on the trauma ward before a brain bleed resulted in brain death. Max was an organ donor for five families.
</div>

</div>
<div>Max’s mother had been by his side every day, driving six hours round-trip in a rental vehicle to be with him and helped manage his care.
</div>

</div>
<div>Max's family are now facing overwhelming medical, travel, and recovery-related expenses — and they need our help.
