<div>In September 2024, I was unexpectedly laid off from a role I was proud of and believed would offer stability. Like many who’ve been through sudden job loss, I thought I’d bounce back quickly. I gave myself a few months to regroup, search, and land my next opportunity.

<div>But weeks turned into months. Despite nonstop effort—applications, interviews, networking—I remained unemployed. And as the months wore on, so did my financial and emotional resources.

<div>A Life Reduced to the Essentials

<div>To stay afloat, I made the difficult decision to give up my two-bedroom apartment in Denver. I moved into an Airbnb with just the bare necessities, placing the rest of my life—my furniture, belongings, memories—into storage.

<div>I started doing DoorDash to try and make ends meet while continuing to job hunt. But between rising gas prices and the wear on my car, the income barely covered anything, and the stress only mounted.

</div>

<div>Eventually, I packed up my car again and made my way back to San Francisco, where a close friend generously offered me a temporary place to stay in his spare studio apartment. That act of kindness gave me just enough space to stabilize and keep trying.

<div>The Light at the End of the Tunnel

<div>After nearly 10 long months, there is finally hope: I’ve been offered and accepted a new job—back in Colorado. It’s a real opportunity to rebuild and return to a life that feels stable again.

</div>

<div>But there’s a challenge. The position doesn’t begin until October 2025, and that leaves me with two more months of no income, no savings, and no ability to bridge the gap on my own.

</div>

</div>

<div>I’ve started a new job here in San Francisco in the meantime, but the pay is very minimal and not enough to support even basic costs of living. I’m still applying and interviewing for roles that would allow me to stay—but those haven’t materialized yet.

<div>Why I’m Asking for Help

<div>I don’t ask for help easily. In fact, I’ve resisted doing this for a long time. But now I’m here, with nothing left but the truth and a humble ask.
