<div>Danish photographer Klaus Thymann was arrested in Uganda on 29 June 2026 amidst the government’s aggressive crackdown on press freedom.

<div>Klaus was in Uganda to report on the glaciers and community of the Rwenzori Mountains, a place he cares deeply about and has worked for decades to spotlight through reporting and fieldwork.

<div>He was unlawfully detained for 5 days without explanation, amongst other human rights violations. Klaus has now been unconditionally released without charges.
</div>

</div>
<div>Klaus and his family are grateful to everyone who has worked to ensure his safe release. The support of friends, colleagues, and concerned others has been invaluable.

<div>Klaus' legal team has been working tirelessly on his behalf, but the costs of mounting a strong defense are considerable.
