<div>Our dear friend and teammate, <strong>Chai</strong>, and her husband <strong>Louie</strong>, are going through every parent’s worst fear.

<div>Two weeks ago, their sweet 1-year-old daughter <strong>Xena</strong> developed a high fever that wouldn’t go down. They rushed her to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with <strong>pneumonia</strong>. After several days of treatment, she seemed stable enough to go home — but the very next day, her fever spiked again.

<div>When they returned to the hospital, the doctors determined she needed to be transferred to a different facility for further evaluation. Their insurance had already been <strong>maxed out during the first hospitalization</strong>, and since then they’ve had to pay every bill <strong>entirely out-of-pocket</strong>.

<div>Now the doctors need to run additional tests and bring in infectious disease specialists, but the hospital requires payment <strong>up front</strong> before they can continue. After everything they’ve already paid, Chai and Louie are down to their last <strong>₱13,000 (about $250) </strong>— not nearly enough to cover the next steps in Xena’s care.
