<div>“Maladaptive” follows Phillip, a lonely theatre director whose quiet night at a bar becomes a journey through memory and grief when he unexpectedly reunites with his old high school friend, Caleb. As the night unfolds, the lines between past and present blur, pulling Phillip into a dreamlike spiral of flashbacks (depicted on stage!), unresolved drama, and forgotten promises.

<div>Told through a blend of realism and theatrical metaphor, “Maladaptive” aims to be a human story about what we hold onto, what we leave behind, and how we grow through heartbreak. It’s about the friendships that shape us— and what happens when they disappear. I wrote this script as a means to explore and understand my own experiences with complicated friendships, as well as hopefully prop up a mirror to the shared experiences of others that prove similar.
