Strengthening into a Category 5 while making landfall, Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica’s southwestern coast Tuesday afternoon, local time. The extent of the destruction is still unknown, as Melissa makes her way across the country.

<div>Our experienced GEM Caribbean team, based in Kingston, Jamaica, has begun prepositioning for assistance, while our GEM Headquarters is sending supplies into the area. GEM has already deployed a ship of supplies to Haiti, which will continue our prolonged support to the country. Additionally, a cargo plane of aid &amp; containers of supplies has been mobilized to reach Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa passes. GEM has 2 large warehouses in Kingston, which are prepositioned to support the immediate &amp; long-term recovery post-Melissa.
