<div>l live in Vancouver, Canada, and I’m an early childhood educator as well as an online interpreter. I am a part of a significant research project to support Risa. She has amblyopia and hearing loss, and is legally deaf-blind. She is an Associate Professor of Disability Science at Osaka Kyoiku University and works to raise awareness of deaf-blindness and improve our understanding of disabilities.

<div>Risa’s current work focuses on improving special education systems in Japan. She has been conducting a study on one of the environmental issues of special needs education in Japan, namely the personnel changes of teachers since 2022. In order to find a solution to the issue, she has actively been visiting overseas research institutes to investigate how Western countries are working to improve the quality of special support education since 2023. Her research has shown significant inequality in the current system, and a strong need for reform that can be aided by implementing successful systems from Western models.

<div>This May, we are planning to attend conferences for deaf-blind education in Europe. We hope to share Risa’s extensive knowledge of special education while learning about technology and strategies that can improve the lives of those with disabilities in Japan. I am attending the conferences as Risa’s physical support as well as her interpreter.

<div>However, the funds provided by the University are not enough for both of our travel and accommodation needs. Moreover, the value of Japanese yen has significantly decreased, making travel even more difficult.

<div>She has very limited vision, so she requires support for mobility. Additionally, she also has hearing loss, which means she needs assistance with communication in spoken language.

<div>To ensure that I can support Associate Professor Risa Nara in attending conferences and other activities, I have decided to raise funds to cover the shortfall in travel and accommodation expenses.
