<div>My name is Brittney, and I’m currently in hospital going through one of the most unexpected and emotional experiences of our lives.

<div>At 23 weeks + 6 days pregnant, my waters broke suddenly just after 4am on Saturday 19th July. I had gone into Maitland Hospital the night before for a reassurance check after having a few concerns — and after already presenting three times earlier that week. They decided to keep me overnight, and then everything changed unexpectedly.

<div>I’ve now been admitted to hospital long-term, and the midwives have told me I’ll be monitored closely until I go into labour. We’re taking each day as it comes, trying to give our baby girl as much time as possible to grow stronger. The care team has also prepared us that NICU will likely be involved when she’s born.

<div>This journey has taken a huge emotional and physical toll. After experiencing an ectopic pregnancy and ruptured left fallopian tube in December 2024, this pregnancy has already been filled with so much fear and trauma. Now, with this early complication, it’s thrown me, my partner, and our family into deep uncertainty. I’m scared, anxious, and doing everything I can to stay calm for our baby girl.

<div>This sudden hospital admission has completely changed our financial circumstances. I’m no longer able to work I’m officially off work now much earlier than we expected. My partner who is doing his best to support us and has to keep working to cover rent and living expenses, but that means he can’t be with me daily. And also mentally doesn’t get to take care of himself through this either. Even with one income, we’re barely keeping our heads above water.
