<div>As part of my mission with the <a href="https://princealbertfund.be/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Prince Albert Fund</a> (KBF), I am currently working with Ugani to develop access to high-quality prosthetic solutions in South America, with a focus on the Mercosur region.

<div><a href="https://ugani.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ugani</a> ’s mission is to make high-quality prosthetics more accessible through 3D printing.
</div>

</div>
<div>During fieldwork across Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Brazil, I had the opportunity to meet clinics, orthopaedic centers, and healthcare professionals. This experience highlighted both the strong commitment of local teams and the structural limitations many patients still face in accessing advanced prosthetic care.

<div>In collaboration with Ortopedia Il Nonno in Córdoba (Argentina), we decided to support the improvement of care for Claudia L.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Ugani will contribute to the fabrication of the prosthetic socket, while our local partner will complete the remaining components of the prosthesis.
</div>

<div><strong>Claudia Story :</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Medical journey</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Claudia’s medical history began at the age of 17, when she was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, causing significant pain across all joints. Corticosteroid treatment helped partially manage the symptoms.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Two years later, her condition progressed into systemic lupus erythematosus, an autoimmune disease that eventually affected her kidneys and led to kidney failure, requiring a kidney transplant.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Her first transplant allowed her to stabilise her condition for approximately 10 years, before a second transplant became necessary in 2013. This second transplant was performed using a family donor (her sister), with full compatibility.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Complications and mobility</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Over time, Claudia developed additional complications, including a bilateral hip replacement.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>She later underwent a left leg amputation, resulting from vascular complications linked to her chronic condition as well as a road accident.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Current situation</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Today, Claudia uses a prosthesis and crutches in her daily life. She remains independent and active, while continuing to require regular rehabilitation and ongoing adjustments to support her mobility and quality of life.
</div>

</div>
<div><strong>Goal : </strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our initial target is to raise <strong>€750 </strong>to support Claudia’s prosthetic care, including the improvement and adjustment of her current prosthesis.
</div>

</div>
<div>If we reach <strong>€2,000</strong>, the additional funds will allow us to extend support to include rehabilitation, helping Claudia further improve her mobility and quality of life over time.
</div>

<div>Beyond this amount, <strong>every additional €500 </strong>raised will fund one prosthesis for another person in need, through our local partner network.
</div>

Cette expérience a mis en lumière à la fois l’engagement fort des équipes locales et les limites structurelles auxquelles de nombreux patients sont encore confrontés pour accéder à des soins prothétiques avancés.

<div><strong>Histoire de Claudia : </strong>
</div>

<div><strong>Parcours médical</strong>

</div>
<div>L’histoire médicale de Claudia débute à l’âge de 17 ans, lorsqu’elle est diagnostiquée avec une polyarthrite rhumatoïde juvénile, entraînant des douleurs importantes dans l’ensemble des articulations. Un traitement à base de corticoïdes permet alors de soulager partiellement les symptômes.

<div>Deux ans plus tard, sa maladie évolue vers un lupus érythémateux systémique, une maladie auto-immune qui finit par affecter ses reins et entraîne une insuffisance rénale nécessitant une greffe.
</div>

<div>Une première greffe lui permet de stabiliser sa situation pendant environ 10 ans, avant une seconde transplantation en 2013, réalisée avec un donneur familial (sa sœur), parfaitement compatible.
</div>

</div>
<div><strong>Complications et mobilité</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Au fil du temps, Claudia développe d’autres complications, notamment un remplacement bilatéral des hanches.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Elle subit ensuite une amputation de la jambe gauche, en lien avec des complications vasculaires de sa maladie chronique ainsi qu’un accident de la voie publique.
</div>

<div><strong>Situation actuelle</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>Aujourd’hui, Claudia utilise une prothèse et des béquilles dans son quotidien. Elle reste autonome et active, tout en nécessitant un suivi régulier en rééducation et des ajustements continus pour soutenir sa mobilité et sa qualité de vie.
</div>

<div><strong>Objectif</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>Notre objectif initial est de récolter 750 € afin de soutenir les soins prothétiques de Claudia, incluant l’amélioration et l’ajustement de sa prothèse actuelle.
</div>

</div>
<div>Si nous atteignons 2 000 €, les fonds supplémentaires permettront d’inclure de la rééducation, afin d’améliorer davantage sa mobilité et sa qualité de vie sur le long terme.
</div>

<div>Au-delà de ce montant, chaque tranche supplémentaire de 500 € financera une prothèse pour une autre personne dans le besoin, via notre réseau de partenaires locaux.

<div>La historia médica de Claudia comenzó a los 17 años, cuando fue diagnosticada con artritis reumatoide juvenil, causando un dolor significativo en todas las articulaciones. El tratamiento con corticoides ayudó a controlar parcialmente los síntomas.

<div>Hoy, Claudia utiliza una prótesis y muletas en su vida diaria. Se mantiene independiente y activa, aunque necesita rehabilitación regular y ajustes continuos para apoyar su movilidad y calidad de vida.

<div><strong>Objetivo : </strong>

<div>Nuestro objetivo inicial es recaudar 750 € para apoyar el cuidado protésico de Claudia, incluyendo la mejora y ajuste de su prótesis actual.
