<div>It’s a beautiful country, but what happens to its animals is heartbreaking.

<div>Authorities shoot stray dogs, even in broad daylight, in front of children and often fail to kill them outright, leaving them to suffer on the streets. Countless dogs and cats are run over by cars, trucks, or even metros. Others endure daily cruelty: people throwing stones, hitting them, or simply abandoning them when they grow old or sick.

<div>Living in Germany, I often hear about the plight of street animals in places like Romania. That is tragic too, and I’m grateful so many Europeans help. But what I have witnessed in Tunisia is beyond imagining—proof of how cruel people can be to innocent creatures.
</div>

<div>Thankfully, there are heroes. They may not wear capes, but they rescue, treat, and rehome these animals. I’m lucky to call some of these rescuers my friends. From Germany, I do what I can—helping financially and finding adopters in Europe—but I want to do more.
</div>

</div>
<div>Because our efforts are entirely private, we receive no government support. The costs are overwhelming: veterinary care, surgeries, medicine, and pensions (boarding) for animals waiting for families. Here are just a few of the lives we’re fighting for:

<div>•Ouarda (“rose” in Arabic): Hit by a metro and amputated, she now stays at a dog pension until we find her a home, with monthly boarding fees to cover.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Daisy: Shot by authorities and also amputated, she now needs treatment to save her remaining leg.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Far (“mouse” in Arabic): Found as a puppy with his ears cruelly cut and a severe infection. He is headed to a family in France, but we need help with his veterinary and travel costs.
</div>

</div>
<div>Flora: Struck by a truck, she required surgery to save her leg and is almost ready to join her new family in Germany.
</div>

</div>
<div>Pouchi: A tiny Maltese, a little ball of fur, born with a leg disability and abandoned because of it. Children were hitting him when a friend found and rescued him. We are preparing him for a new life in Europe.
</div>

</div>
<div>Laiki: A mixed-breed shepherd who technically has an owner, but was left to fend for himself on the streets. He suffered a broken leg that can’t be repaired and has other health problems. After veterinary treatment, he is now recovering in a dog pension while we search for a loving home.

<div>These are only a few of many. We can’t save every animal, but we rescue as many as possible, hoping to raise awareness and compassion.
</div>
