<div>My name is Monica Flores, and I am humbly asking for your support during this difficult time in my life. On December 27, 2024, I found myself in an ambulance headed to University Hospital from a doctor's appointment I went to earlier that morning. I noticed some swelling in my feet for a few days which hadn’t gone down. After some labs and a chat with the doctor, she came back in to let me know that I was to head to the ER for further testing in my kidneys. Fast forward a few days later, I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure and told my kidney function was at 12%. A new chapter in my life was beginning. I was in shock, disbelief, angry, and extremely overwhelmed. A month later, I ended up back in the hospital due to some vision issues, and labs came back with all sorts of abnormalities. I was then told my kidney function was at 9%, and I had entered end-stage renal failure. I had my fistula placed, my kidney function is now at 6%, and I am preparing to begin dialysis in August.

<div>I am praying for a kidney transplant to help prolong my life with my husband and daughter. My husband has suffered from strokes, a heart attack, being paralyzed twice, and underwent an open-heart quadruple bypass. It has been difficult these past few months, but by God's grace and support from family and friends, we’ve been blessed.

<div>University Hospital and their staff have been a blessing to me, and I’m grateful for all of their services. However, they do not cover all costs of my medical bills or my kidney transplant surgery.
