 Maria came to the United States with her young daughter to escape gang violence and create a safer future for her family. Over the next ten years she and her husband, Francisco, worked hard, grew their family to include two more daughters, and were cherished members of a vibrant community and a close-knit church.

 All that changed in February when Maria was detained by ICE at a routine ISAP appointment, transferred to a Louisiana detention center, and ultimately deported. Her husband, Francisco, and three daughters (now 17, 6 and 18 months) are shocked and devastated and miss Maria desperately.

 Francisco, was forced to leave his steady job as a driver to attend to his children’s needs. He picks up hours whenever he can but the loss of Maria’s salary along with Francisco’s necessary reduction in working hours has created a major financial hardship for the family. Maria’s attorney fees exhausted the family’s savings leaving little of what is required to continue their eldest daughter’s asylum claim. Her status remains at risk which is a burden no 17 year old should have to carry! At the same time, Francisco is suffering from diabetes, which has propelled the family into a health crisis.

Durante los diez años siguientes, ella y su marido Francisco, trabajaron tenazmente, ampliaron su familia con dos hijas más y se convirtieron en miembros muy queridos de una comunidad dinámica y una parroquia muy unida.

 Todo eso cambió en febrero, cuando María fue detenida por el ICE en una cita rutinaria del programa ISAP, trasladada a un centro de detención de Luisiana y, finalmente, deportada. Francisco y sus tres hijas (que ahora tienen 17 años, 6 años y 18 meses) están preocupados y devastados, y echan muchísimo de menos a María.

 Francisco se vio obligado a dejar su trabajo como conductor para atender las necesidades de sus hijas. Trabaja las horas que puede, pero la pérdida del sueldo de María, junto con la necesaria reducción de las horas de trabajo de Francisco, ha supuesto una grave dificultad económica para la familia. Los honorarios del abogado de María agotaron los ahorros de la familia, dejando muy poco de lo necesario para continuar con la solicitud de asilo de su hija mayor. Su situación sigue en peligro, ¡una carga que ninguna joven de 17 años debería tener que soportar! Al mismo tiempo, Francisco padece diabetes, lo que ha sumido a la familia en una crisis sanitaria.
