<div>From Texas to Minnesota – Fighting Pediatric Epilepsy with Faith, Hope, and Love

<div>On the morning of January 23rd, what was supposed to be a normal school drop-off turned into every parent's nightmare. Our 16-year-old daughter, Jaelean, experienced her first seizure, and we rushed her to the ER.
</div>
<div>After countless tests—blood work, EKGs, sonograms—everything came back normal. But a final EEG revealed what we feared: something was wrong. We were devastated when doctors diagnosed her with Pediatric Myoclonic Epilepsy, a rare and challenging form of epilepsy that can impact both physical and cognitive health.

<div>In the weeks that followed, Jaelean experienced another seizure. We went through two more hospital visits and began researching everything we could—looking for answers, the right doctors, and the best treatment plan. We were intentional about finding a reputable, experienced neurologist, but we ran into two major roadblocks: either the specialists weren’t taking new patients, or our insurance wouldn’t cover the provider or office.

<div>We reached out to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix (just six hours from our home in Texas), but because Jaelean is a minor, we were referred to the only pediatric Mayo Clinic in the country—in Minnesota. That referral was both a blessing and a challenge.

<div>It was incredibly difficult to hear that our insurance wouldn’t cover any of her care out of state—but even more painful to realize that it wasn’t really covering much here in Texas either. That’s when we made a decision:

<div>We won’t let insurance stop us from getting Jaelean the best care possible.
</div>
<div>We’re traveling from Texas to Minnesota on June 16th for advanced testing and treatment planning at the Pediatric Mayo Clinic. This journey comes with significant, ongoing costs—and that’s why we’re asking for help.
