<div>to fulfill my promise to make yoga accessible to all, I run xochiyapa yoga, a donation-based, pay-what you can studio. as many of you know, I recently took a leap of faith and signed a permanent lease for a studio space at the niagara arts and cultural center.

<div>up until now, I have been renting a community space there to offer adult yoga, kid’s yoga camp, and collaborate with other professionals to hold special reiki, soundbath, and massage events.

<div>with this new endeavor comes a big project! the NACC is a 100-year old high school that is currently used for creatives (artists, actors, bands, etc.) to come together as a community and give something positive back to Niagara Falls. It has ALWAYS been a dream of mine to offer yoga at the NACC. I feel incredibly grateful that my dream has come to fruition.

<div>however, I am now attempting the obstacle of overcoming the cost of the work that needs to be done. being that it is a very old building that has not always been in use, it has not always been maintained.
</div>

<div>the studio space is in need of the following repairs and remodeling that I am solely responsible for:
</div>

<div>1. repair the wall damage that exists approx. $200
</div>
<div>2. paint the walls a nice neutral color and restain the wooden door, closet, and shelving $300
</div>
<div>3. install vinyl plank flooring to cover the old, broken tile. this is one of my biggest and most important expenses as the room is 900 square feet approx 3. $1000 for materials and $200 for installation
</div>
<div>4. install six large 6x3 mirrors $600
</div>

<div>this project is time-sensitive, as the new lease begins September 1st and my goal is to have the studio ready to hold classes by then.

<div>I earned my adult certification in flow, power, and 26+2 in 2013 while living in San Francisco. I earned my children’s certification in 2015 while living in Boston. I have taught internationally, including Buffalo, NY, San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Boston, MA, Cali, Colombia, Quito, Ecuador, and now Niagara Falls, NY.

<div>Off the mat, I spend time with my dogs, Xóchi and Yapa, and cats Mickey, Leo, and Peanut. I am a kindergarten teacher, working toward licensure as a Funeral Director and Embalmer, and working on publishing my children’s book on grief. I also run The Flower Girl, a flower business.

</div>
<div>Xóchi (so-chee) comes from the Aztec culture and means "flower". Yapa (yoh-puh) comes from Incan culture and means "bonus." My Boston Terrier pups are named Xóchi and Yapa!
