<div>I’ve watched my friend try to leave her abusive relationship three times, only to be pulled back because of a lack of financial resources. Each time, the cycle of verbal, emotional, and financial abuse restarted, leaving her feeling trapped.

<div>For years, her ex-partner has controlled her through money and fear. She was never treated as an equal, never added to the deed or mortgage, never given shared money, and yet was always expected to be the primary parent. Whenever she tried to leave, he threatened to use his wealth to hire the best custody lawyers money could buy, knowing she couldn’t afford one. Out of fear of losing her child, she endured the abuse just to stay close to her.

She wants to keep her children together (she has one child from a previous relationship) with her, and secure custody and child support so they can finally have the safe, stable home they deserve. But this is already proving to be a high-conflict legal case, and <strong>without funds for an attorney, she cannot stand up against the financial and legal power of her ex.</strong>
