<div>Katie Bible &amp; her 3 year-old recently fled their home at 2am, after several inches of torrential rain runoff overtook their entire house. Homeowners insurance does not cover this damage. They don't live near water, so Katie didn't have flood insurance. Now she's facing $10,000-20,000 in repairs to: 1) redirect runoff in order to prevent future damage; and 2) make the flooring safe for her toddler to re-enter the house.

<div>The bill from the water remediation company is $11,000, which Katie is paying over time. Between this, a mortgage &amp; car payment, nothing is left to make the repairs. Katie is a first-time homeowner who bought the home less than a year ago. So she doesn't yet have equity to borrow against.
