<div>“Dear Sikhonkwane“ ist ein 21-minütiger persönlicher Dokumentarfilm über das Leben von Steven Sikhonkwane Mahlalela – einer der ersten Autoren, der in seiner Muttersprache Siswati schrieb und veröffentlichte. Seine Geschichte als Autor steht beispielhaft dafür, wie eng Gemeinschaft, Kultur und Sinn mit dem lebendigen Bezug zur Muttersprache verknüpft sind. Die Sprache Siswati wird von schätzungsweise 5 Millionen Menschen im Südlichen Afrika gesprochen und wurde über Generationen weitestgehend mündlich weitergegeben. Schreiben und Lesen in dieser, der eigenen Sprache, ist für Identität und den Erhalt von Wissen und Kultur ein wichtiger, manchmal sogar ein widerständiger Akt.

Dieser intime Film zeugt von seinem Vermächtnis und seinem unerschütterlichen Engagement für die Förderung junger Menschen und des Zugangs zur eigenen Kultur über Geschichten und Sprache.

Außerdem möchten wir Vorführungen in Bibliotheken, Schulen und Gemeindezentren organisieren.

</div>
<div>We aim to host a film premiere in Nelspruit, bringing together family, friends and people whose lives were touched by Sikhonkwane. This won’t just be a screening, it will be a moment of reflection, celebration, and gratitude. In-kind contributions are also welcome.

<div>2. Film Festival Submissions
</div>
<div>We want to submit the documentary to festivals around the world. This will allow the documentary to reach international audiences, scholars, and cultural institutions. However, most festival submission fees are in US Dollars or Euros, which can be costly.

<div>3. Marketing &amp; Audience Development
</div>
<div>We aim to take this film into schools, book clubs, cultural forums, and beyond — creating space for critical conversations around SiSwati literature, Sikhonkwane’s legacy and language, identity, and culture. We also want to organize community screenings in libraries, schools, community halls etc.
