Hi! We’re Liana Montoya-Loranger and Alicia Gettler, the co-creators of Damsel in Distress! A passion project born out of our shared love for storytelling through film, music, and art.

Liana is the writer, director, and co-creator of the project. She’s a Film and Digital Arts student at the University of New Mexico with a deep love for comic books, illustration, and cinema. Her dream is to bring bold, imaginative stories to life on screen—and with your help, she’s one step closer to making that dream a reality.

Alicia is the music producer, singer, songwriter, and co-creator of Damsel in Distress. Also a film student at the University of New Mexico, Alicia is passionate about weaving stories through both music and visual media. This project is especially important, combining everything she loves about creative expression. WHAT IS DAMSEL IN DISTRESS?

Damsel in Distress is a short film music video that is a love letter to the evolution of cinema and the portrayal of women throughout film history. It’s a genre-bending music video that spans decades, styles, and iconic tropes, all led by a cast of powerful, complex women.

SYNOPSIS:

The story follows five “Damsels,” each inspired by a different era of film. On the surface, they seem like the classic characters waiting to be rescued, but in reality, they’re the ones in control. The Man may think he’s the hero, but he plays a role in their story.

MEET OUR DAMSELS:

The Actress – A tribute to 1930s-40s cinema, inspired by classics like King Kong and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Played by Alicia!

The Victim – Channeling the gritty fear of 1970s horror, she echoes final girls from films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The Reporter – Our modern-day Lois Lane, straight from the world of superheroes, tough, clever, and more than capable on her own.

The Princess – A fairytale icon who isn’t waiting in her tower for a prince. She’s just as tough as any man

The Lover – A nod to Romeo and Juliet. She’s not a damsel by design, it’s her toxic romance that pulls her into distress. Trust us, she’s got it handled.

WHO IS OUR CREW?

Damsel in Distress will be filmed entirely in New Mexico, supporting local artists and creatives. The majority of our crew and cast consists of current and recent graduate film students from the University of New Mexico, helping launch the next generation of filmmakers!

WHAT WILL THE MONEY BE USED FOR?

Your support will help us cover production costs like set design, locations, props, wardrobe, feeding our crew, and post-production to make this video as magical and meaningful as we can!
