<div>Calling all football fans. We are Walking Football in Cyprus; a group of walking football clubs from across Cyprus who have come together to form a squad of Cypriot and expatriate senior men. Building on the incredible success of representing Cyprus and taking part in the World Nations Cup in Torrevieja, Spain last October, we now aim to repeat this endeavour by returning to Spain in November for the European Nations Cup. All the nations of Europe have expressed an interest in taking part and Cyprus wants to be included.

<div>Our intention is to take part in what is likely to be the most contested age group; the men’s over 50’s. Our squad of 12 hopefuls will pit their skills against the best walking football teams across Europe.

<div>As a team of 50+ years old players, we may no longer be able to play the regular game, however through walking football we’ve continued playing the game we love, albeit at a slower pace, and demonstrating that there are opportunities for senior people to continue enjoying life to the full.
</div>
<div>Walking Football in Cyprus has a wider intent in supporting physical activity for senior men and women in the local communities, and getting this team to Spain will help highlight the sport and spread it to further reaches of the island of Cyprus.
</div>
<div>Our senior squad comprises a mix of working men and retirees. The cost of entering the competition, and getting everyone to Spain is estimated at €15,000. <div>We are appealing for any donations to help make this event happen. All funds received will go toward travel, accommodation, competition fees, and kit. In the event that we do not travel to Spain, all funds will be returned.

<div>Καλούμε όλους τους φίλους του ποδοσφαίρου. Είμαστε η «Walking Football Cyprus» – μια ομάδα συλλόγων ποδοσφαίρου βάδην (walking football) από ολόκληρη την Κύπρο, που ένωσαν τις δυνάμεις τους για να συγκροτήσουν μια ομάδα αποτελούμενη από Κύπριους και ομογενείς μεγαλύτερης ηλικίας. Αξιοποιώντας την τεράστια επιτυχία της εκπροσώπησης της Κύπρου και της συμμετοχής στο Παγκόσμιο Κύπελλο Εθνών (World Nations Cup) στην Τορεβιέχα της Ισπανίας τον περασμένο Οκτώβριο, στοχεύουμε τώρα να επαναλάβουμε αυτό το εγχείρημα, επιστρέφοντας στην Ισπανία τον Νοέμβριο για το Ευρωπαϊκό Κύπελλο Εθνών. Όλα τα ευρωπαϊκά έθνη έχουν εκδηλώσει ενδιαφέρον συμμετοχής και η Κύπρος επιθυμεί να δώσει επίσης το «παρών».

<div>Σκοπός μας είναι να συμμετάσχουμε σε αυτό που αναμένεται να είναι το πιο ανταγωνιστικό ηλικιακό γκρουπ: την κατηγορία ανδρών άνω των 50 ετών. Η ομάδα μας, αποτελούμενη από 12 αθλητές, θα αναμετρηθεί με τις καλύτερες ομάδες walking football (ποδοσφαίρου βαδίσματος) από όλη την Ευρώπη.

<div>Ως ομάδα παικτών άνω των 50 ετών, μπορεί να μην είμαστε πλέον σε θέση να αγωνιστούμε στο κλασικό ποδόσφαιρο, ωστόσο, μέσω του walking football, συνεχίζουμε να παίζουμε το άθλημα που αγαπάμε –έστω και με πιο αργό ρυθμό– αποδεικνύοντας ότι υπάρχουν ευκαιρίες για τα άτομα μεγαλύτερης ηλικίας να συνεχίσουν να απολαμβάνουν τη ζωή στο έπακρο.

<div>Το Walking Football (ποδόσφαιρο βάδην) στην Κύπρο αποσκοπεί ευρύτερα στην προώθηση της σωματικής άσκησης για άνδρες και γυναίκες μεγαλύτερης ηλικίας στις τοπικές κοινότητες, ενώ η συμμετοχή της ομάδας μας στη διοργάνωση της Ισπανίας θα συμβάλει στην ανάδειξη του αθλήματος και στη διάδοσή του σε περισσότερες περιοχές του νησιού.

<div>Η ομάδα μας αποτελείται από άνδρες που εργάζονται και συνταξιούχους. Το κόστος συμμετοχής στη διοργάνωση και της μετάβασης όλων των μελών στην Ισπανία εκτιμάται στις 15.000 ευρώ.
