<div>Bonifacia  es una mujer indígena mazahua que, a sus más de 60 años, está presa y ha vivido una historia marcada por el dolor, la violencia y la injusticia. No sabe leer ni escribir. Durante más de 12 años, fue brutalmente golpeada por su esposo. Un hombre que no solo le negó el amor, sino también el respeto básico a su dignidad como ser humano.

<div>“No me golpeaba con compasión”, dice Bonifacia. Pero, ¿acaso existe una forma compasiva de golpear a una mujer? ¿Puede una mujer ser golpeada “con cariño”o por un hombre?

<div>El infierno que vivió llegó a un punto límite en octubre de 2021. Esa vez, en plena calle, su marido volvió a agredirla. Bonifacia, por primera vez, se defendió. Tomó una vara y logró detenerlo. Al día siguiente, el hombre murió.

<div>Desde entonces, la vida de Bonifacia cambió… pero no para bien.

<div>Aunque actuó en defensa propia, fue detenida ese mismo día. Sin traductor, sin revisión médica, sin peritajes ni apoyo legal con enfoque de género o indígena. Las autoridades del Estado de México ignoraron sus derechos y la sentenciaron a 8 años de prisión.

<div>Lleva casi cuatro años encarcelada por haber hecho lo único que pudo para salvar su vida.

<div>Su historia no pasó desapercibida para un grupo de voluntarias de la Fundación Sadhana, que trabaja con mujeres privadas de la libertad. Ellas presentaron una solicitud de amnistía y buscaron apoyo en todas las instancias posibles.

<div>Finalmente, junto con la Comisión de Derechos Humanos del Estado de México, lograron que el caso llegara nuevamente a los tribunales. Hoy, la esperanza está puesta en que la Comisión de Asuntos Indígenas del Poder Judicial revise el caso con justicia, perspectiva de género y respeto por los derechos de los pueblos originarios.

<div>Bonifacia, campesina de una comunidad cercana a Valle de Bravo, no tiene casa. Si recupera su libertad, tendrá que empezar de nuevo desde cero. Su cuerpo y su memoria están marcados por los golpes y el dolor. Pero también está sostenida por algo más fuerte: una fe enorme y la convicción de que, aunque tarde, la justicia puede llegar.
