Hallo,

We, MediNetz Magdeburg e.V., have been supporting Babette and her family since one year. Unfortunately, we can no longer cover the ongoing costs. Here, we are offering Babette the opportunity to tell her story personally and are asking for help together.

Hello,

my name is Babette. I am 41 years old and I come from Senegal, where I worked as a nurse. After I was forced to flee in 2018, I lived in Hungary for several years until early 2025, when I came to Germany due to severe racist discrimination. I now live here with my husband and our three children. Unfortunately, I am not yet allowed to work because my professional qualifications have not been recognized. My husband is ill and currently unable to work as well. He only has emergency health insurance, and I also have no health insurance. Our two older children are also only covered for emergencies, and our baby currently has no insurance at all. We have no income and are living under very difficult conditions.

In July, I gave birth to our third child by caesarean section. The birth was very difficult: I lost a lot of blood and became very ill afterward. I developed a thrombosis and a severe bacterial infection. Our baby also had to be treated immediately because his thigh bone broke during birth. The treatment and follow-up examinations for all of this have resulted in very high costs. I now urgently need financial assistance for medical care and other expenses like the kindergarten fees or translation costs for the recognition of my nursing qualification.

Our everyday family life is also extremely challenging. Our seven-year-old son attends a special needs school, and assessments are being carried out to determine whether he is on the autism spectrum. Our three-year-old daughter would normally be able to attend kindergarten, but because we cannot pay the outstanding fees, she is currently not allowed to stay there. This support is something we miss greatly—especially now, as I am recovering from the difficult birth, our baby requires a lot of care, and I am at the same time trying to find a job so I can finally work in my profession again.

It is not easy for me to ask for help publicly. But I no longer know what else to do. We want to give our children security and are urgently in need of support. Every contribution—no matter how small—helps us tremendously and gives us hope.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my story and support us in this difficult situation.

Yours,

Babette
