<div>Layla tiene solo 2 años y 8 meses. Es una Westie chiquita, inteligente, dulce. Desde bebé ha sido mi compañera, mi familia, mi razón para seguir en los días más oscuros. Hoy, ella es quien me necesita. Ella llegó hermosa justo después de un episodio super duro en casa con la operación de mi mami. Llegó para darnos felicidad y luz a todos.

<div>El 23 de junio comenzó con vómitos y diarreas. La llevamos de inmediato al veterinario. Lo que parecía una infección se convirtió en pesadilla: su bazo estaba necrosado, con manchas negras, inflamado al punto de amenazar su vida. Nos decían que podía quedarse en la mesa de operaciones por sus valores tan bajos. Le transfundieron sangre. La operamos. Le sacaron el bazo. Resistió.

<div>Desde entonces, no hemos parado. Diagnósticos confusos, punciones, sospecha de linfoma (cáncer), leucemia, anemia severa, trombocitopenia. Cada día es una batalla entre la fe y el miedo.

<div>Ninguno de nosotros entiende cómo esto ha pasado aunque la chequeamos frecuentemente (cada 4 meses), cuando su última visita al vet fue en abril de este año. 2 meses antes de todo este cuadro. Y siempre fue sana.

<div>Actualmente, lucha contra una trombocitopenia inmunomediada, probablemente adquirida por todo lo que ha vivido este último mes. Desde el domingo hasta el día de hoy, Layla ya ha recibido 2 transfusiones de sangre (3 con la de la cirugía). Y ahora, con urgencia, necesita una de plaquetas. No hay en Lima. La estamos buscando como locos.

She arrived beautifully just after a super tough time at home with my mom's surgery. She came to bring happiness and light to us all.

<div>On June 23rd, she began vomiting and diarrhea. We immediately took her to the vet. What seemed like an infection turned into a nightmare: her spleen was necrotic, with black spots, swollen to the point of threatening her life. They told us she could stay on the operating table because of her low blood pressure. They gave her a blood transfusion. We operated. They removed her spleen. She survived.

<div>Since then, we haven't stopped. Confusing diagnoses, punctures, suspected lymphoma (cancer), leukemia, severe anemia, thrombocytopenia. Every day is a battle between faith and fear.

<div>None of us understands how this happened, even though we check her frequently (every 4 months), and her last visit to the vet was in April of this year, 2 months before this whole situation. And she was always healthy.
</div>

<div>She's currently battling immune-mediated thrombocytopenia, likely acquired due to everything she's been through this past month. From Sunday to today, Layla has already received two blood transfusions (three including the one from the surgery). And now, she urgently needs a platelet transfusion. There aren't any in Lima. We're searching like crazy.

<div>Every minute counts. Her body is consuming everything we're giving her.

<div>Today she's hospitalized. I can't see her, except for brief moments. She cries when she hears me. But she keeps fighting.
