<div>Hace más de 20 años,<strong> solo 8 Guacamayas Verdes (Ara militaris) vivían en libertad</strong> en Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco. Hoy, gracias a la dedicación de mi familia y al apoyo de diversas instituciones y personas a lo largo del proyecto,<strong> más de 110 guacamayas vuelan libres, muchas de ellas nacidas en nuestro Santuario de 70 hectáreas.</strong>

<div>Mi nombre es Francisco Espino. En 1999, con 19 años, fundé El Santuario de las Guacamayas, un refugio para reconstruir la población de guacamayas militares en la península silvestre de Cabo Corrientes. Desde entonces, he dedicado mi vida al voluntariado para proteger estas aves y ahora mis hijos también se han unido a esta labor familiar.

<div>Gracias a nuestro esfuerzo, en los últimos ocho años, 112 polluelos han sobrevivido hasta la edad adulta y regresan cada temporada al Santuario. Esta temporada alcanzamos una de nuestras mejores temporadas de reproducción: 26 polluelos en 18 nidos activos, casi el doble del año anterior.

<div>El Santuario está registrado oficialmente ante las autoridades ambientales mexicanas como Unidad de Manejo para la Conservación de Vida Silvestre (UMA) “Santuario de las Guacamayas”, cumpliendo con todos los requisitos legales para la protección y manejo de la especie.

<div><strong>CÓMO TRABAJAMOS Y CON QUIÉN COLABORAMOS</strong>
</div>

<div>Nuestro proyecto avanza gracias a la dedicación de la familia y al apoyo de científicos, instituciones y organizaciones como:

<div>- World Parrot Trust – asesoría y colaboración científica internacional.
</div>
<div>- Instituto Veterinario y Ecológico – estudios sobre manejo de psitácidos (loros).
</div>
<div>- Biólogos de todo México – aplicación de protocolos rigurosos para el cuidado de la población de guacamayas.

<div>- Monitoreo y limpieza de polluelos para eliminar parásitos.

<div>- Identificación y seguimiento de guacamayas para garantizar su seguridad y supervivencia.

<div>Gracias a este trabajo, <strong>estimamos que la tasa de supervivencia de los polluelos aumenta de 16% en la naturaleza a más del 70% en nuestro Santuario.</strong>
