<div>In November of 2024, Adam went to his doctor for persistent pain in his right knee. What he thought might be a minor issue turned out to be much more serious, a large mass was discovered on the back of his femur — approximately 2” X 4” in size. After numerous tests, a biopsy at the University of Michigan (UM) confirmed the diagnosis: <strong>Parosteal Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.</strong> The early prognosis was low-grade cancer.

<div>On January 30th, Adam underwent an extensive surgery at UM to remove the tumor along with a significant portion of his femur and was replaced with a donor bone. Three days later, <strong>an accident in the hospital caused Adam’s femur to snap in half. This required another major surgery, which set back his recovery.</strong>

<div>Although the pathologist is confident that the entire tumor was successfully removed, it was determined that portion of the tumor was classified as <strong>high-grade</strong>, meaning there’s a small chance that undetectable cancer cells could have entered his bloodstream. To address this risk, <strong>Adam's care team began a rigorous 7+ month chemotherapy regimen</strong> to eliminate any potential remaining cancer cells and guide Adam to a complete recovery.

<div><strong>Adam has been unable to work or operate his business, Cavitt’s Complete Care, since his diagnosis in November. He has not been able to walk on his own since January.</strong> Throughout this journey, Adam’s partner Abigail has been by his side every step of the way.  They spend 10-12 days a month in Ann Arbor going through treatment. Abigail has taken on the role of full-time caregiver. While she considers it a privilege to care for him,<strong> it has significantly impacted their ability to work and maintain financial stability.</strong> With all of the associated expenses including frequent travel and lodging in Ann Arbor, they are navigating the challenges of maintaining financial peace of mind on top of everything else. Adam is currently in his 4th round of chemotherapy of an estimated 14-21 total. As you can imagine, the toll physically, financially and emotionally, has been immense.

Despite all of his challenges, he continues to face each day with strength and hope, thanks to the unwavering support of his family, friends and the community. He is looking forward to the day that he can walk on the beach again with the people he loves most.
