<div>My name is Agata. I am 44 years old and a mother of a nine-year-old boy. And I really want to live – for him. Just a few months ago our life looked completely different. There were simple everyday joys: mornings with sandwiches for school, evening cuddles before bedtime, shared conversations about dreams. I thought we had years ahead of us – for everything.

<div>But at the beginning of 2025, severe back pain appeared. I thought it was because of a skiing accident, that it would pass, that after rehabilitation I would return to normal. It never crossed my mind that it could be something much worse…

<div>In April I heard the diagnosis that changed everything: breast cancer with metastases to the spine.

</div>

<div>I cannot describe that moment. I only remember the silence in the doctor’s office, the pain in my chest that had nothing to do with the disease, and the thought – what about my child? What will happen to my little boy if I’m gone?

</div>

<div>he has just started our dream school in Blackheath. We have worked so hard to get in and I could not enjoy that with him. Then we had to leave London to go to Germany. 

</div>

<div>In June – two months later – I stopped walking. I lost feeling in my legs. My world came to a halt. Doctors in three different hospitals told me they couldn’t do anything. That my case was too difficult. That standard treatment wouldn’t work.

</div>

<div>But I cannot give up! My son needs me. For him, I decided to keep fighting. Thanks to wonderful people, I got to a clinic in Burghausen, Germany, under the care of a Professor Aigner who not only didn’t refuse me, but gave me hope to be ok.

</div>

<div>My dearest husband became my hero. This situation brought us so close together and healed us in so many ways. It is incredible that a challenging experience like this can transform two souls, two soulmates. Sergio is a hero. Not only did he take care of me and move mountains to ensure I had everything I needed, but he did so while looking after his son and supporting his mother, who is also battling cancer — all of this while working full-time. I want to get healthy not only to see my son grow up and to be there for every moment, but also to be able to take care of my husband for the rest of our lives.

<div>I went through first cycle of treatments. And a miracle happened. I began to regain feeling in my legs. My body started to respond again. For the first time in months, I truly felt that I had a chance to come back to life.

</div>

</div>

<div>Medias Klinikum has been operating for over 35 years, and Professor Aigner is a genius. His method is available only in this clinic and it give a chance of possible cure – not just treat me palliatively.

</div>

<div>But the road is still very long. I had 5 more therapy cycles and supportive treatment in between.

</div>

<div>It is very expensive.

</div>

<div>We have done everything we could and family, friends, and neighbours helped. But our resources are running out. And we don’t have much time.

<div>That’s why I ask – as a mother and as a human being who wants to live – please help me finish my treatment. I am fighting for my son, for his smile, for my husband, for my parents. For Sebastian’s peaceful childhood. For shared breakfasts, walks home from school, vacations we haven’t yet experienced.

<div>Me llamo Agata. Tengo 44 años y soy madre de un niño de nueve. Y quiero vivir, de verdad, por él. Hace apenas unos meses nuestra vida era completamente diferente. Había pequeñas alegrías cotidianas: las mañanas con los bocadillos para el colegio, los abrazos por la noche antes de dormir, las conversaciones compartidas sobre los sueños. Pensaba que teníamos muchos años por delante, para todo.

<div>Pero a comienzos de 2025 aparecieron fuertes dolores de espalda. Pensé que era por un accidente de esquí, que pasaría, que después de la rehabilitación volvería a la normalidad. Nunca se me pasó por la cabeza que pudiera ser algo mucho peor…

<div>En abril escuché el diagnóstico que lo cambió todo: cáncer de mama con metástasis en la columna vertebral.

</div>

<div>No puedo describir ese momento. Solo recuerdo el silencio en el consultorio del médico, el dolor en el pecho que no tenía nada que ver con la enfermedad, y el pensamiento: ¿y mi hijo? ¿Qué será de mi pequeño si yo ya no estoy?

</div>

<div>En junio —dos meses después— dejé de caminar. Perdí la sensibilidad en las piernas. Mi mundo se detuvo. Los médicos de tres hospitales diferentes me dijeron que no podían hacer nada. Que mi caso era demasiado difícil. Que el tratamiento estándar no funcionaría.

</div>

<div>Pero ¡no puedo rendirme! Mi hijo me necesita. Por él decidí seguir luchando. Gracias a personas maravillosas llegué a una clínica en Burghausen, Alemania, bajo el cuidado del profesor Aigner, quien no solo no me rechazó, sino que me dio esperanza de curarme por completo.

<div>Mi queridísimo esposo se convirtió en mi héroe. Esta situación nos acercó muchísimo y nos sanó de tantas maneras. Es increíble que una experiencia tan desafiante pueda transformar a dos almas, a dos almas gemelas. Sergio es un héroe. No solo cuidó de mí y movió montañas para asegurarse de que tuviera todo lo que necesitaba, sino que lo hizo mientras cuidaba de su hijo y apoyaba a su madre, que también lucha contra el cáncer, y todo ello mientras trabajaba a tiempo completo. Quiero recuperarme, no solo para ver crecer a mi hijo y estar presente en cada momento, sino también para poder cuidar de mi esposo por el resto de nuestras vidas.

<div>Pasé por el primer ciclo de tratamiento. Y ocurrió un milagro. Empecé a recuperar la sensibilidad en las piernas. Mi cuerpo comenzó a reaccionar de nuevo. Por primera vez en meses, sentí de verdad que tenía una oportunidad de volver a vivir.

<div>Por eso pido —como madre y como ser humano que quiere vivir—, por favor, ayúdenme a terminar mi tratamiento. Estoy luchando por mi hijo, por su sonrisa, por Sergio. Por su infancia tranquila. Por los desayunos compartidos, las caminatas de regreso de la escuela, las vacaciones que aún no hemos vivido.
