Hi, my name is Sara and I find myself in need of a medical procedure I can't afford. I'm one of the many people who have fallen in the cracks of the system, ineligible for government funded medical insurance or state medicaid. Since the new health care act took effect, I find that I'm no longer eligible for the small amount of help I used to be able to count on from medicaid since Florida did not opt to expand the program, so people like me no longer receive any help.
I am the single mother of two children, both of whom are young adults now, but struggling like so many people now days. I live with my son, who is 21 and a student who works part time. My daughter rents a room here and also works part time. Our combined income seems to be just enough to keep us from qualifying for help, but not enough to provide the basic necessities that we need.
I've been dealing with some medical issues for the past few years that I've been able to manage with low cost medications, but was recently informed by my doctor that I need to have a procedure done that will hopefully get me off the medication, which isn't good for me because I have a heart arrhythmia. I also have to get that checked out before they'll do anything about the rest of my problems.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I just don't know where else to turn anymore. All the avenues for emergency situations I've been able to lean on in the past have seemingly just disappeared, so this seemed like the only way to raise the funds needed to get the operation.
