We are starting this fundraising campaign to support my grandson Bryce and his family. Bryce is a sweet, funny, active, loving little 6 year old boy with a heart of gold that enjoys playing sports, doing crafts, drawing pictures for his teachers, playing with his cousins and giving lots of hugs . He is in Kindergarten at Independence Elementary School in Fort Worth, Texas.
On January 2015 Bryce visited the dentist, who noticed he had lost his 12 year molars. The dentist suggested for Bryce to have a checkup with the pediatrician. The pediatrician said that Bryce was going through puberty (at 6) and that he needed to be evaluated by an endocrinologist right away. The evaluation lead to an MRI that revealed that Bryce has a brain tumor called Optic Pathway Glioma.
The news came as a shock to all of us and it has been very difficult to understand.
This tumor is inoperable. The growth rate of this tumor is already affecting Bryce in several ways. At this point, Bryce has lost most of his peripheral vision and his left eye is very weak. The tumor has also accelerated Bryce’s development. He has 11 year old bones.
The doctors have recommended a biopsy, which is scheduled to take place on March 30th, to determine first if the tumor is benign or if it is cancer and second to determine the next course of action. Doctors are hopeful that chemo treatments could stop the growth and possibly shrink the tumor. After the biopsy, Bryce will need an MRI at least every three months to check the progress of the chemo, medication to stop puberty and other medical expenses (deductibles for biopsy and procedures).
My son in law works as a Mechanic and my daughter is a stay at home mom taking care of Bryce as well as raising her niece and nephew.
Bryce was just diagnosed with Optic Pathway Glioma, so we don’t have a clear vision on what to expect. This family will need our support and I’m asking for you to support us through prayers as well as donations if you are able, in order to alleviate the financial burden that Bryce’s treatment will pose on them.
