Our young men experience an achievement gap that limits their chances of reaching their full potential in the marketplace and over time has an immediate impact on the African-American community as a whole. Our young men also face so many obstacles and setbacks in their respective communities as a result of crime, gangs and violence.
Chicago has been the topic of National & International News as a result of the unprecedented shootings that take place annually where far to many of our young men are not only the victims of the violence but also the perpetrators. The Manhood Development Camp is an attempt to engage at-risk youth by providing them with Knowledge, Skills & Techniques that will aid them as they continue to grow and develop.
The camp will surround them with positive African-American Adult males that will be able to share their stories and experiences. Participants will build their tool boxes in the areas of socio-emotional, conflict resolution/anger management, restorative justice and overall future orientation. It will be our goal and my responsibility to deliver and facilitate an interactive process and camp that aptly addresses these topics and other pressing societal issues.
I am calling on men to give of their time to help support our future generation of men. We can no longer sit on the sidelines moaning and groaning about what we are seeing daily on the news. We have to take action and support efforts that are intended to get to the core of the hearts and minds of our young men. Please join me in this pilot effort to begin making positive change in our communities
