I was once a pastor at the largest Christian church in North America. I was considered a theological scholar based on my academic degrees. And yet, I had a nagging and persistent restlessness in my soul. I was missing something, and I didn’t know what it was. This inner angst caused me to leave my professional ministerial life on a personal quest to find that missing piece.  All my life I had been searching for truth in the heavens above and in the sacred writings of religion, but then I found a profound truth that was simply present in my heart and humanity. It was the truth of being human – a fact that unites us all as one human family and offers a pathway toward peace and harmony in our world.

My goal for the Friends of Jim Palmer GoFundMe campaign is to build a network of monthly supporters who will help me inspire, educate, unite and mobilize people across the entire religious, spiritual and philosophical spectrum to create a world of peace, harmony and workability for all human beings and living things.

In 2005 I began sharing my journey as an author out of organized religion into a more authentic, liberating, inclusive and human spirituality. I have published five books about this path I've been on.  In addition to my writing, I have a spiritual direction practice, am an adjunct professor of Ethics and Comparative Religion, involved in international human rights work, and a catalyst for interfaith dialogue and collaboration.

In 2017 I started the Nashville Interfaith Meetup Group. Religious, spiritual and philosophical diversity in our world does not have to be divisive. It is my conviction that there is a universal human bond, which can be embraced, celebrated and used for the common good, regardless of one’s religious, spiritual or philosophical beliefs. I believe that knowing one another deeply, both in our differences and in our common humanity, is a necessary ingredient in harnessing our collective potential for addressing our greatest human and ecological challenges. It involves an openness to genuine friendship, understanding, mutual respect and solidarity with those who are different than us. It also entails collaborating together for the greater common good, and addressing the most pressing issues of our times. Through the Nashville Interfaith Meetup Group I want to create tools, best practices and body of experience to promote, equip and empower similar efforts worldwide.
