My name is Mike El Shami and I work as a professional driving instructor in Southern California, where my family has owned and operated a driving school for over 15 years.
What I am about to expose may be shocking, but I assure you it is true.
Unknown to the public, there is a deadly flaw inside the U.S. driving school industry.
This flaw is the hidden ROOT cause of why so many of our children are dying in the teen auto accident epidemic.
Why do I call it an epidemic?
* Auto accidents are the #1 killer of teen children in the U.S. [1]
* Seven teens ages 16 to 19 die every day from motor vehicle injuries. [2]
* In their first year on the road, teen children are almost 10 times more likely to be in a crash. [1]
While nothing can ever eliminate completely the risk of driving a motor vehicle, we are failing to minimize this inherent risk to our teenagers because of one glaring, crucial oversight – the system that teaches young drivers how to drive is BROKEN.
A sadly unknown and overlooked problem in America is that driving schools are failing to prepare our children to drive. We graduate our kids from these minimum-requirement programs and expect them to simply pick up through experience all the skills they need to keep themselves safe and stay alive.
However, this is a huge mistake that has been proven to be deadly.
This is a critical problem that those outside the driving school industry do not know about.
Parents are being misled into thinking their children are learning to become good drivers at a driving school. This is far from the case.
Most new drivers are still severely under-trained and at-risk, even after completing costly driving school courses.
Driving schools are typically run as small private businesses largely independent of the states or the federal government. They are also loosely regulated, not monitored and not required to follow any set lesson plan.
As professionals, we can state confidently, based on 20 years of combined experience teaching people how to drive, that driving schools are being allowed to teach to inadequate standards and this is the main reason why automobile accidents are the #1 cause of teen deaths. [1]
Put simply, driving schools are failing to teach because they are not required to teach.
Even the U.S. Government admits that driving schools do not produce safe drivers. [4]
At the same time, the Government still mandates that parents pay driving schools for this service. Shocking, but true.
This not only forces people to pay for expensive courses that do not work, it creates a false sense of security in parents and fills our roads with dangerously under-trained drivers.
This is a disservice to everyone.
Learning to drive safely is arguably the most critical, important skill most of us will ever learn, yet driving schools continue to produce bad drivers - as the tragic accident statistics show.
Are we going to continue to allow the broken system of drivers education to put the lives of our teen children in VERY serious danger?
To end this epidemic of teen deaths and reduce the risks we all face from poorly trained drivers on the road, my team and I have created the DriveSmart System.
In so doing we have done something nobody has ever done before - reinvent the way driving is taught and create a practical, modern approach that can be brought to everyone.
This system has been developed by professional educators with over twenty years combined experience teaching new drivers and operating a driving school.
We do this every day and we know what it takes to make safe drivers.
